I have been with Allstate for over 15 years. I bought a house in 2006 and had a good premium from Allstate. Apparently they "check" your credit every 3 years and my recent policy reflected a 102% increase! I totally expected a minor increase because unfortunately I had to file a claim for a slab leak this past December. I called my rep. and he said it was because of my credit. All three credit scores are over 700. I did my research and discovered a car loan from 2006 was showing as paid after bad debt/in default. I contacted Ford Motor Credit and they told me that after my dad filed bankruptcy in 2005 the loan (he co-signed) was automatically placed in default even though the payments were NOT late and the car was paid off three months early. I am currently fighting them but even after showing Allstate proof of this they refuse to reinstate my prior premium. Nothing else on my credit is bad. NOTHING. No late pays. Great credit to debt ratio. When I appealed the increase they denied saying that I hadn't had an "extraordinary life event that caused me to have bad credit!" My mortgage is seriously going to go up and I'm worried about being able to make ends meet. I am a divorced mom of one and a teacher. Does anyone know the contact info. for the Allstate CEO? I swear I will take this to the top. But how can an "ordinary Jane" hope to battle the big boys like Ford Motor Credit and Allstate? I am so tired of fighting for everything.

It didn't have a thing to do with credit. They raised the reports after years of paying them simply because I filed a claim. I did contact other companies and the rates would be the similar since I had a recent claim. I think the same has happened to you and working on your credit while good may not resolve the issue of higher insurance.
