Alltel cellular phone plan "All you can talk for 49.99" Major rip off

I purchased the Alltel "All you can talk" plan for $49.99 a month - only to find out I could not talk most of the time because Alltel service was not available in most of the area I live and work in!

When I complained after 3 weeks, I was told that they were working on improving service in this area (Florida, West Coast, Naples area) and that it should get better. Meanwhile, I had lost a big contract because my customers could not get in touch with me. People told me that they had left messages - but I never got them, or several hours later, when I was in the Ft. Myers area again.
Therefore I decided to cancel Alltel and to return my phone.

I was told that I was tied by a two year contract and that I had to pay the monthly fee anyway.

I think this is a major rip off! How can Alltel sell a service that is not available and get away with it?

I refuse to pay these bills and I hope to find out if there is already a law suit against Alltel.

Alltel keeps sending me invoices and collection letters and calls.

Is there a Class action law suit against Alltell where I could join or is any attorney handling these cases? Please let me know if you have any information since I am very frustrated.

I was with GTE Wireless when they were sold to Alltel so that Verizon could be formed. You are not alone in your complaint about the unlimited plan.

The other complaints have been roaming and long distance charges while in the plans "home" area.
