Complaint Review: Alltell

We purchased two Kyosera Slider phones from Alltell in November 2004. We paid over $100 for each phone with a year's contract with Alltell. They could not initially get the touch-to-talk feature to work and we made several trips back to the store. Within a month, the ringer on one of the phones stopped working and I again made a trip to the store. I waited for hours and they said they had a shipment of new phones they hadn't yet opened, and that I needed to call back later and see if a replacement for my model was in the shipment. It was, and I again went back to Alltell and they replaced the phone.

Again, there was trouble getting touch-to-talk to work. So they replaced the phone a second time claiming it was the new phone. I again spent hours in their office and hours on the phone with technical support. They eventually got the new phone to initialize after weeks of dealing with their messes and incompetent personnel.

Additionally, after I purchased both phones, I called the 800 number provided to insure them both. Alltell says I never insured one of the phones while the insurance company says I had them both insured. The insurance company started the insurance process anew since someone had dropped the ball. After they redid the process, they then inform me that it would take 8 days, in which I was completely uninsured. Neither Alltell nor the insurance company will fix their mistakes and I'm left with an uninsured phone and I cannot even switch companies because I'm under contract with them until November with two expensive and worthless phones that have been more trouble than they have been of use.

It would appear that from all the bad reports here that Alltell is simply getting by with scamming the public because they're not getting the bad publicity it would take to put their bad business practices to rest. And I'm just one customer, I'm sure they won't miss my payments. But I have definately decided that I am not going to stop with simply filing a rip-off report. Perhaps the editor of the local paper and the BBB might bring a bit of notice by Alltell.
