We received a letter in the mail today. It was from ALW Sourcing, LLC, which looked like a collection agency. The letter said we needed to pay off a balance of $69 owed to NCO Portfolio Management, Inc. The bill showed two purchases at Exxon Mobil, $34 and $35. There was a phone number provided for ALW, so I immediately called, curious about what the heck NCO was and why we owed them money. The guy on the phone said that NCO is their client, and it looked like my husband either wrote a bad check to Exxon or he had a credit card with Exxon. Let me tell you, my husband doesn't even know where the checkbook is, he NEVER buys gas at Exxon, we do not have an Exxon credit card, and we do not even live in the US. For the past 3.5 years we've only been buying gas on military posts, at AAFES. So, there is 100% no way we could possibly have incurred this debt. When I asked what NCO had to do with Exxon , the man replied that NCO is the new company name for Exxon. In the end, the man said they could have meant a different person withmy husband's name. When I asked to check the SSN, the man said their "client" did not provide any SSN. Well what kind of a collection agency sends a collection of debt letter to someone with the same name as 300 other Americans? Mynextstep was to go and look up both companies, and they are both on Ripoff Report. My only question is, will these stupid $69 go on my husband's credit report, and if it's possible, how do I stop that?
