Recived a call tonight from daughter she got her telephone bill today $45 long distances charges. verizion told her no long distance charges were made on her phone when she called them about the bill she got from alyon.

we are disputting charges will contact laywer see what he has to say about bill. she has no

long distance they told her you have to put blocker on phone to make sure no long distance is called from your phone.

this is not right you have pay $5 a mounth plus $15 to put it on your phone just to keep this from happening. this will cost more than the bill in a years time when it should not happen at all if you tell the phone company nolong distance.

Bad news.

Charles,

Even though the phone company said there are no long distance charges, and even though there is no long distance on that line, she will probably have SIGNIFICANT long distance charges on her next phone bill. They will most likely be nearly the same amount as the porn bill. The system they're using circumvents regular normal long distance (or lack of) and conventional 900 blocks.

The local telco will not see the charges until the billing has been generated. I can't explain this -- but that's their story -- and they'll stick to it.

She will need to contact the phone company(s) and dispute the charges as soon as she gets the bill. That will buy her about 90 days.

Sorry for the bad news but you might as well prepare yourself. Read as many of the posts here for cleanup and complaint information. Look for a dial-up networking connection called minidialer delete it. (You may choose to save some things to disk first for evidence or dissection.) Do a find on iedisco.exe, if found, delete it. Do a find for egroup and delete the directory if found. There's more cleanup including looking for trusted certificates in Explorer, if that's her browser. There's a lot of good info on this site about cleanup. Ask her if she remembers a site or email that generated a rash of porn popup windows and make a note of it, or post it here. Have her do a Windows update to the OS and browser.

File a complaint immediately with the FTC. www.ftc.gov

You mentioned that you couldn't dial the number from her phone. If that's the case, she may simply be the victim of a billing error in the ANI (Automatic Number Identification) system. However, if you find the minidialer setup on her system, I suspect the long distance phone bills are on the way.

Hang in there.
