This young lady (Aubrey) came to our door and she told her practiced story of what she was doing. She said that she was selling magazines in order to get money for college. She told us her story and explained how everything worked.

So my boyfriend decided that he was going to get me a subscription because it was relatively cheap and we were going to be helping somebody. So he wrote her a check and off she went. She was walking around the neighborhood and her ride wasn't going to be back to pick her up for about an hour and it was raining. So I offered her my umbrella. She said "Oh, I don't want to take your umbrella." I didn't want her to either so I told her to just drop it off when she got picked up. She never showed.

My boyfriend and I were then uncomfortable because we had written her a check for $25 and now we thought it was a scam. He called his bank and to cancel the check would cost $20. So either way we lose. So we got ripped for $25 and an umbrella. He said that is the last time he "helps" anyone who comes to our doorstep.
