I received an Amazon Alexia Echo Plus for Christmas. My daughter nor I could get it to work. I texted Amazon help line and a guy named Sam called me back. He stated we could not get it to work because of security issues Amazon has now set up on all new Alexia's. Without a security package anyone could then hack all of my computers and phones in the house, getting all bank, credit card, and contact information. He proceeded to show me a Micro package that would cover all my devices for 3 years for a whopping $399. I am totally dissatisfied. I never heard this when Amazon is advertising this item. My question to all consumer -- are they trying to cover themselves from a lawsuit or are they just trying to make a buy another worthless electronic product we don't need. If what Amazon states there are many Alexa owners who do not know this and are at a very high risk of being hacked. My Alexa is being returned.

What generation of your echo? You may go to how to set up 1st gen echo page or 2nd gen echo page depending on your echo. The instructions are very straight forward. You will need an account on Amazon and credential to connect to a wifi though. Other than that, you need nothing. Don't fall for any kind of up sale. As the other poster said, the chatting company is run by a 3rd party company that is not Amazon.

Sorry, I stated text, but it was chat on the Alexa.amazon.com site. This site address was given to me on directions in Alexa set-up directions and was included in package.

It is doubtful that you were actually "talking" to anyone from Amazon.   You don't post how you got the number to text them, but if you went online and searched for help it is likely you actually got a 3rd party company that has nothing to do with Amazon and do everything they can to try and make you think that they are the real company.

They also will use scare tactics to try and make you think that you must purchase some extra service they are selling.  But very often they are exaggerating the issue and failing to tell you things such as if the company has already addressed and patched their software to fix the problem.

The other tell-tale sign is that you sent a text message.  You can contact them by phone, e-mail or by live chat.  I have never seen or could find anything to contact them by text message.
