I received an odd letter in the mail this afternoon, there was no return address and the stamp was from Canada.  Enclosed was a check for $3,499.86 from America Consumer Research.  The letter stated that I had shown an interest in being a mystery shopper for Wal-Mart in an online survey.  The company offered to pay me $299.86 every week for the first two months, and $499.14 every week after that.  (After I had completed my training.)  The instructions were as follows:

1.
Deposit the enclosed check into a checking or savings account.
2. Call my coordinators (Ms. Janet Downing and/or Mr. Anthony Adams) for further assignment instructions.
3. Complete my mystery shopping and call the coordinators promptly.
4. Fill out, and fax the survey evaluation form to the number provided by the coordinators.

I went to the Better Business Bureau website (BBB.org) and entered in the alleged business name.  The contact information provided on the letter did not match the search results.  I then called the number and spoke with "Anthony Adams", who by the way had a very interesting accent!!  I talked to him for a total of about 2 minutes before he hung up on me.
