America Online, ALO fraudulent billing and I assume victimized many other consumers on this web site alone ripoff New York Internet
I had signed on to America Online for the 45 day free trial. I was very dissatisfied with the performance because every time my wife or I logged on, it would kick us off after only a minute or two and we would have to log on at least 4 times for it to let us surf the internet. I wasn't sure when the 45 day trial period was up, so I had to wait until they billed my checking account.
When my account was billed, which was January 2003, I called in to cancel my account and was told that it had been cancelled and I would be able to use the service until 1 month after the first payment was taken out of my account. Along came February and again a payment was taken out of my checking account without my authorization. I called AOL again and spoke with a lady who understood my situation and agreed to credit back the total of about $47 to my checking account. Along came March 2003 and I got a collection notice from AOL for $57.
This time I spoke to a supervisor and was told that unless I paid the total in full, I would be sent to a collection agency. I don't know what to do from here and was hoping to get some help somewhere.
