My complaint is identical to so many that you have already reported that I can be brief. In October 2002 my Visa statement included two unauthorized charges of $79.99 each for AOL Credit Alert and AOL Netmarket. I did not authorize even trial periods. I was never sent confirmation of my supposed orders or any information packet on either one.

Although I am currently being put through the same hoops that others have reported, I am not making much progress. I have seen too many complaints about AOL to continue believing that this was an isolated and honest billing error.

I am not certain how AOL is affiliated with the above companies, but they have, at best, shared my credit card number with unauthorized third parties or, at worst, made fraudulent use of it themselves. I report this as a prerequisite to expressing interest in a joint suit referred to elsewhere in this site.

Where to complain

Since I first submitted my complaint about AOL I have also submitted a complaint to the FTC and urge that anyone else who has been victimized also submit a complaint.

To access the FTC complaint form enter "FTC" into the address bar; you should see a link to the form. (If your fingers need exercise, enter: ttps://rn.ftc.gov/dod/wsolcq$.startup?Z_ORG_CODE=PU01)

The FTC will not address individual complaints, but the more complaints they receive, the more likely they are to initiate an investigation into the matter.
