America Online I kept trial to cancel but they kept giving me free trial They decide to bill me after a trial month
My boyfriend and I got one of those 100 Free hours of AOL in the mail. I thought Why not? It was all good, but we didn't want to keep the service because we hardly used it and it would be a waste of money. My boyfriend called and said that he wanted to cancel the service. The AOL employee asked for a reason and my boyfriend gave them a reason. The employee then offered another free month.
We started in June, and every month my boyfriend would call and try to cancel, but AOL would give us another free month.
Well, in December I call and tell them that I wanted my services cancelled and I gave them the reason for cancelling. The employee says, "I'll give you another month free as a Christmas gift." I thought was really nice of him, until we saw the credit bill the next month. AOL charged us for our FREE CHRISTMAS GIFT.
My boyfriend and I were furious. He called AOL a number of times trying to resolve it. He even asked for a playback of the conversation (Isn't there a automated message that says, "Your phone call may be recorded..."?), and they immediately said they couldn't do it. My boyfriend didn't pay the bill, but after a few months of getting bills and collection notices, he finally paid the $30-something bill (Isn't AOL only about $20 a month?) He figured it was only $30 for 6 months of internet...which is cheap. But they shouldn't have lied and said that we would be getting another free month, especially since we tried cancelling every month.
My suggestion when cancelling AOL services, get the person's first and last name. Also, record the time and date that you called. We wish we had done that!
