America Online program hides in other files and resets default connection Internet Internet
I like others tried AOL and was disgusted with their service.I uninstalled the program but still had AOL trying to connect at any time on its own.
I decided to start looking through my hard drive and what a surprise I had when I found peices of AOL in different programs.I had to reset all my defaults to the settings I wanted in these programs as well as my default internet connection.
I am running Windows XP and I asked someone who was running an older version of Windows if they had the same problem and I found that they did so this is not just a problem with my computer but many.
The AOL techs will try to claim that you are at fault for not knowing about this but I feel that they do not try to explain to anyone what their progam will load into or what it will change.
I suggets if you have a problem with AOL taking over your computer that you call your computer companies tech support and ask them where to look and what to delete.

How I deal with AOL's software
#2Consumer Suggestion
Mon, December 09, 2002
One of the VERY FIRST things that I do to a computer is to install a commercial grade system cleaner/uninstaller, and remove ANY traces of AOL from it.
My favorite is SystemSuite from v-com.com, but I'm sure there's others that do a good job too.
I use it to uninstall any AOL, Compuserve, and other services that come preinstalled on new pc's these days. If it's not installed then I delete it and all related folders.
Then run virtually all of the cleaners, including the registry fixer to remove every trace of the programs that I don't want on my system.
This should help you to get completely rid of any software you don't want such as AOL without reinstalling your OS.
I also suggest Ad-Aware (a free program from www.lavasoft.nu) to get rid of adware and spyware that eat up your bandwidth over time that will end up on your pc.
I run these on a fairly regular schedule to keep my pc's lean and clean.
Hope you find this helpful.
