America's Credit Union Credit Union on Army base not troop or deployment friendly Ft. Lewis Washington
I've used this credit union, whose main branch is on Fort Lewis Army Base, for several years, and as they've been "expanding" off-post and "improving" services, customer service has declined drastically.
I'm deployed overseas 8 to 9 months a year so have to do 90% of my business and bill paying online, in addition to transfering funds to my wife while I'm away. All too often their transfer service is down with "technical difficulties", and the alternative is a wire transfer which they will rarely waive the fees for even if their transfer system is down. The transfer service itself is often slow and unreliable. The number of days (yes, I said days) it takes to complete an electronic tranfer between branches is anywhere from 1.5 to 4 business days, which is just ridiculous.
They have a message board to contact them online, but it's checked infrequently and the responses are generic "we'll look into that" memos. The messages are also restricted in length so if there's a real issue it takes 2 or 3 to fully express what you need done.
If it wasn't going to be such a nightmare to have my direct deposit changed I'd have closed this account months ago. Instead, I'm tranfering the majority of my funds to another institution, and recommend anyone else who banks with them to do the same. For being a "military friendly" credit union, they aren't very accomidating to people in my situation.

Apology from America's Credit Union

On behalf of America's Credit Union, we are extremely sorry. There must have been a misunderstanding that your need was to have the money transferred immediately. Our intent is always to meet the needs of our members. It is unfortunate that we didn't hear about the situation until recently, as we would have rectified it immediately and reversed the wire transfer fee. We can assure you that we are taking steps to ensure that this type of situation does not occur in the future. Thank you for your candid feedback. Ben, we'd love to hear from you!

I am ex-military, now a DOD civilian so allotments are not an option. The credit union has an automatic transfer to other institutions, but it is often down with server problems. This credit union has long been run as some kind of old west mom and pop shop as opposed to a reputable financial institution. Anytime I call, I either get the runaround or am told I can't handle my issue over the phone. As a result I go to the message board on their website, but because of the size limit of messages, it takes me several messages to fully convey my issue. The response is always generic and rarely actually addresses or resolves the issue at hand. I'm just hoping reporting them to every consumer reporting agency I can find will help them either improve or get bought out by a real institution that knows the meaning of customer service.

Why don't you simply start an allotment to your wife? When I was on active duty in the USAF, we had several allotment options. Did the military do away with "class S" allotments (for savings)?
With an allotment, the money is direct deposited on payday.
