I just became a victim of Wells Fargo's Criminal Overdraft Scam. After checking my account at 12:30 a.m on 2/18/10 my available ballance was $20.23 with nothing pending. I was relieved to see that my insurance premium of $67, I have taken out each month, hadn't posted. Knowing I had a positive available balance I used $10 for gas. At 2:56 a.m on 2/18/10 I deposited $100 dollars in my account to cover the insurance that would post to my account later that day. When I checked my account later that evening around 8 p.m there were "FOUR" overdraft fees, $35 each, on my account. What Wells Fargo does is create a "gray area" of time in which the customer has no real time evidence of any transaction postings. You may see a positive balance on your account with nothing pending, but from 8:30 p.m until 8:00 a.m the next day, your under their jurisdiction, to dictate to you the order of your transaction postings. It's not surprising to see that this situation falls in their favor. The only way this problem can be addressed is for Wells Fargo to time stamp every posting along with the date, for you to see on your on line account. It's funny that when I asked for the time my insurance actually posted they didn't have that information. I would also like to add that when I checked my account in the evening of 2/18/10 that the date of the posting of my insurance was 2/17/10, remember when I checked my account on 2/18/10 at 12:30 a.m it hadn't posted yet. This leaves a nice window for Wells Fargo to do their dirty work and arrange other postings in their favor to maximize their overdraft profits, with out the customer knowing. Later on 2/19/10 they added another overdraft charge saying that there was another transaction that posted during that time. So how is it that I have a positive available balance with nothing pending, until they create the initial overdraft and a line my other transactions to coincide as other overdrafts. And yes, these employees of Wells Fargo are incompetent, brained washed, want to be economist/bankers, saying anything they were just pitched at the last meeting. I would like to close by saying that it is the CEO and bank executives that should be targeted for this unjust practice and brought to justice.

If you had $100 to deposit, to cover a $67 charge, why would you bother using the $10 for gas from the bank instead of using cash?  This sounds odd.

You shouldn't use your available balance as an indicator of anything, particularly not in the middle of the night.  If I access my online bank account every hour from midnight to 6 am, I will most likely get six different balances.  Experience as a consumer has taught me this, nothing else.

No, I don't work for, or bank with, Wells Fargo OR Wachovia.
