American Appliance Repair Services, LLC Justin Gandy takes your money without finishing jobs and never returns. He changes phone numbers and addresses to hide this fact. Because he is handicapped, he takes advantage of the situation. Independence, Missouri

Unfortunately we did not check the internet to see that American Appliance Repair Services, LLC had already been written up as a rip off company apparently owned and formed by Justin Gandy. When our refrigerator broke and wouldn't cool, we checked the Yellow Pages and found this company on an half-page add. Justin showed up that evening at 7 pm as promised and with one glance inside the unit, declared he could fix it for $270. Being stuck without a working refrigerator, this didn't seem an unreasonable price for the repair. He removed the back of the side-by-side freezer, exposing the frozen coils and asked for a hair dryer to melt this. I indicated that the preview to the failure was caused by a chattering relay or control at the top of the refrigeration section where one controls the temperatures. He indicated that a new board was $170 and he had one.


Our problem was since this took quite some time to thaw out the freezer with the hair dryer, we didn't monitor what work was being done on the promised part. At one time, I looked in to see the unit I had complained about was loosened by him and dangling in the refrigerator.


He apologized for being out of invoices and asked for a pad of paper to write one on. He wrote what appeared to be a very formal receipt including "2 years warranty" and affixed his card to it, signed and dated it.


Short story is he claimed he fixed it without replacing it but we still owned the money and paid the final bill of $277. Next day, the unit is chattering worse than ever and the refrigerator will certainly fail. He will only answer our phone calls if we make them from new numbers and promises to be out the same day. We've been through 5 promises and excuses unfulfilled. This is when we found complaints about him on the internet. His voice mail is full and won't take additional messages. He uses a 913 area code phone for filtering his calls and returns them on an 816 line. He brags of being a finalist for best small business of the year with 4 workers. No other worker ever answers these lines. He drives a crappy looking white van.


Do not make the mistake we did.
