I lost my home to a fire on 7-2-2016..I lost everything I had besides the close on my back. After I contacted American Bankers insurance company of florida two or three day later a Scott Smedley called me & said he would be handling my claim. He called & emailed me a few times about what he needed, after me giving him everything he asked for over a period of time he stopped answering my phone calls & emails I think it started when I sent him a report that had my picture on it.u could clearly see I was a black older guy...I am over 60 years old & I suffer from a stroke I had a few years ago & my speech & body ant what it use to be.. He must have noticed, that i couldn't speak well. They had me to do a interview with a trained lawyer, which I almost was afraid. He had me feeling like I was on trail for murder. I answered all his questions to the best of my knowledge.. That was about two months ago & I still haven't heard from them..They want return any of my calls or emails..it's been Five months that I have been homeless. I live with family now...So if u are black /or elderly I would not recommend that you use this company. .I was afraid to say anything to anyone because I feel they are looking for any reason denie my claim. So if anyone can help please fell free to contact me jamesjones8059@gmail.com

Get an attorney and/or insurance adjuster to help you

The insurance company can not discriminate.  I will say that insurance company's as a whole are difficult to work with whenever you submit a claim.  It would be best for you to get an attorney to represent you against the insurance co so you can get the funds from your claim. The attorney will know what to do. You may even need to file a complaint with the insurance commissioner for your state. Good luck in getting your home rebuilt.
