I have been putting off the situation that my husband and I found ourselves in with a company called American Capital. It is defined in your site as the scam offering a credit card for a down payment fee. They took our money and didn't send us the card.

My husband has been facing bad credit since a past divorce. We were told by a mortgage company that we needed new credit, so the offer was a good one for our situation. They gave us a web site address to check out to confirm that they were legitimate. In the rush to take advantage of this "one day only" deal we fell for it without fully assessing the situation. We gave them our account information over the phone and they withdrew over $250.00. Once we realized that we were not getting the card, humiliation caused us to take no further action.

Unfortunately, it has been months since this transaction had taken place. A couple months ago I called my bank to get information on the company who withdrew the money. They only gave me a phone number. The phone number is a non-existent number and we misplaced the web site address.

Due to my negligence of this issue, I am sure it will be quite hard to get my money back. I am going to follow the guidelines I got off your web site to further investigate with my bank and report the incident.

We have moved. I cannot personally go to my bank, but I can make calls. I still have the account open with a very small amount of money in it, which I will be closing tomorrow via a faxed letter.

If you have any advise for my specific situation I would appreciate for I am pretty late in the game. The information you have provided is more than I would ever hope for.

I cannot imagine where they got our phone number along with information on my husbands credit rating to know we were the perfect victims.

Anyway, next time we will think before acting, check out your web-site and respond appropriately

I wonder if these people don't pay for the names of prospective victims. We started getting these fraudulent credit card calls right after we spoke with the mortgage company.
