Complaint Review: American Chimney Sweeps

On July 24, 2003 American Chimney Sweeps came to my home to perform a chimney cleaning, based on a sales call offering $35 chimney cleanings. They were at my home about an hour and when I got the bill it came to $800.

Throughout the service call, one of the techs would tell me of things they were doing, like the repair to our disconnected flu and install of a new chimney cap to comply with fire code, etc. All these things did not seem like $800 total work.

In the end the tech tried to also sell me a gadget for another $100 that was spring loaded and would snap into the top of my fireplace opening to prevent further smoke from entering my home. I said no, because the flu repair and cleaning should take care of and prevent that from happening.

On April 8, 2004 our local NBC news broadcast a special report about ACS and how they ripped off a couple and in the end the work was never done as told them and their house caught on fire. Supposedly American Chimney Sweeps' BBB license was revolked and they have had dozens of reports to the BBB about them.

Beware! This is definitely a bad company and they should be put out of business.
