American Construction Services was contracted to demo my kitchen, to include removal of cabinets, countertops, sink, a pantry, and soffitt, then repair drywall, and install the new cabinets and trim. The drywall repair ended up looking terrible. We asked Mike Dozier, the owner of American Construction, to get his sub-contractor back to fix it, but the work was never completed and the final product is substandard.
When the remainder of the cabinet trim arrived, Mike Dozier arrived to finish the kitchen. However, he did not complete installation of corner moldings and drawer pulls. Additionally, one of the skins that he installed has since separated from the cabinet. He was not able to install our crown molding that day because the Lowe's kitchen designer had failed to advise us to order a required molding block. Mike said that he would come back to finish the job when the molding block came in.
The molding block arrived and when I asked him to come back to complete the job (which was already paid in full), he said that we would have to pay another $250 for him to return to complete the work. I refused to pay more money for work that was already contracted and paid for; therefore the work was not completed.
Recently, I had an HVAC contractor out to diagnose why my new A/C was not working. The diagnosis is a leak in the line set that runs behind my pantry. The HVAC contractor determined that when the new pantry was installed, a screw had punctured the copper pipe. The repair is going to cost $1094, including the nearly $294 it took to diagnose the problem. I contacted Mike to inquire about getting his liability insurance to cover the damages and he said that he is not responsible for the damage because he doesn't have X-ray vision. I stated that this is what stud finders are for and that cabinets get screwed into studs, not pipes and that he is responsible because he did the damage. At this point, he stated that I would have to do what [I] have to do and then hung up the phone.

I could go on and on. The bottom line is this guy claims he's a "Christian" and that he's one of the good guys in the sleazy world of contracting. However, he can't show up when he's supposed to, doesn't answer/return phone calls, doesn't complete work (the work that was done has several problems), and now is failing to take responsibility for the MAJOR damages he caused. It is not worth the hassle to do business with American Construction Services. Kitchen remodels are stressful enough without having to deal with contractors who could care less about how the job turns out.

After contacting the Better Business Bureau, ACS fulfilled the remainder of the contract and reimbursed us for damages. I still wouldn't choose to work with this company in the future, but I was certainly satisfied with the outcome and appreciated their cooperation with BBB.
