(ACS) Their new phone # as of 10/16/02 is 800-564-2517. They send you a card saying 1) Your credit card has not been activated, 2) You have an approved credit line .....

American Credit Services is deceptive because they send you a post card that says the following:

1) We are notifying you that your credit card has not been activated
2) Our records show this card to have an approved credit line of $ X,XXX.00

The wording is deceptive because it implies that:

a) you already have received a credit card from them
b) you have already filled out some kind of form with them, which would mean that you have read the terms and conditions and agreed to them.
c) since it is already assumed that a) and b) are done you just need to call and you can start charging!

WRONG!!! When I called them on 3 separate occasions I asked them the following:

1) Where's my credit card so that I can activate it? Of course the response I got was, "Oh, we haven't sent you a credit card but if you answer some questions we can go ahead and activate it".

2) Can you mail me the terms and conditions of this card? Of course the response I got was, "No, we only handle this by phone". I'm not positive but I believe this violates the right of privacy laws because you have a right not to give personal info. by phone. I even asked to speak with a supervisor and the supervisor told me that they only provide you with information by phone and only after you answer THEIR questions.

3) What is your business license number? I was told that they "could not give me that information because it is confidential". That is just plain B.S. Any business in any state has to provide you with their business license number so that you can check their status with the better business bureau, consumer affairs and likewise. Otherwise it is implied that they don't have one, which means they are operating an illegally.
