American Dream Home Improvement was the main company that subcontracted to ASAP Roofing to replace the roof on said property (One story ranch and detached garage).  The contractor stripped off the garage roof and started reroofing it without replacing the drip edge over the gutters, also, the drip edge on the eves is placed incorrectly.

As they stripped off the main house, they made a mess out of the yard and shrubbery, dropping shingles and nails into them.  I am still picking up shingles and nails. I ordered 60 lb. felt but they used 30 lb. felt instead. They were to put down a 50 year roof which is a heaver shingle that is more resistant to hail damage.   Instead they installed a roof that is 15 years prorated for 50 years which doesn’t mean what it implies. Shingles made by Owens Corning start prorating from the day their laid down. They were to replace all the drip edge on the whole house, they didn’t do that, only replaced over the front porch and the gable ends and what they did do was done improperly.

In roofing the back half of the house they were to replace two vents, one they just roofed over covering it up and the other they put in the wrong vent type. All the roof jacks had nails driven in to the down slope flashing which is a potential leak. As to the ridge vent the crew had to borrow the home owners skill saw to cut the slot for ridge vent and to patch the roof with a 1” X 8”X 10’ instead of a sheet of  4’ X 8’ X 7/16” chip board which they supplied. I supplied the 1 by material for patching of the roof if needed for rot or broken boards. This was needed because the roof is sheeted in 1”X 8” material.

After finishing laying the shingles I inspected there workmanship, finding nails showing on the ridge row in the pipe jacks and vents. Ridge vent not installed properly, not straight used wrong shingles for ridge vent. The valleys where it ties into main roof is not installed properly, nails are showing which could be a leak waiting to happen.

I called the warranty line and had to leave a message to which I got no reply from the company.  Miss. Iberia called from American Dream Home Improvement wanting money, I told her that the job was not finished and there would be no payment until the work was completed correctly.   Meanwhile, American Dream Home Improvement kept sending bills for more than I owed them by 700.00. They had agreed to accept what the Insurance Company paid out for the loss plus the deductible.

A month later, a crew never called, they just showed up to replace the drip edge that they hadn’t done when they put the roof on the garage and house.  They fixed a shingle near the ridge vent that was buckled up. It was installed incorrectly and the crew damaged more shingles in the process, scarring other shingles and knocking off the granite coating. The drip edge was still incorrectly installed so the crew came back a couple of months later to redo the drip edge.  The crew replaced the drip edge along the eves, prying up shingles to denail drip edge for replacement.  Still did not replace it over the gutters in the front or back and still did not install missing roof vent.

.  Miss. Iberia called again from American Dream Home Improvement wanting money, I told her that the job was still not finished correctly and there would be no payment until it was corrected.  For the third time a new crew just showed up, no call to make an appointment, no anything and started replacing the drip edge on the eves as I drove up. I made sure they replaced the vent on the back roof, I had to crawl into the attic to find where in the roof it came through and put a screw driver in the roof to mark it’s location and the crew even took my screwdriver. It was a 20.00 dollar screw driver.

The shingle rows are not straight or equal in width. Shingles are not installed properly, the ridge meanders across the ridge because the wrong shingles were used on it. This roof is a mess and needs to be completely replaced on the house.
