I was memeber of Gold American Express memeber. When I called in after one year of memebership, the American Express member told me I should apply for Platinum card since I can receive free companion ticket with Delta after one year of membership fee in Platinum.
So I have paid Platinum memebership fee $135 for 2005.
After using it one year, they told me I have to pay second year's membership fee of $135 before receiving the companion certificate. So as soon as they have received my payment, they told me they will send it.

The membersip fee started in 2005 July and my second fee payment was due and paid in July of 2006. When I called to check if they received my payment, the customer service told me they did and will be sending the certificate. 0

After waiting 1 month, I called and the customer service told me they are in delay of sending the certificate. I was told American express are sorry for delay but I should be receiving it soon. After waiting another month at September 1st of 2006, I called again and customer service told me they should be sending it soon.

I waited another 15 days and still no certificate. So I called and asked for their names this time. First Jannette received my call and told me I should received it in 6 - 8 weeks!!!!!

Now come on, that is outrageous. I was promised to receive it in July 2006 and all my fees are paid in full with my balance of $0. It's September 19th already and still haven't received it. So I asked to talk to American Express manager and Michael answered the phone. He said I should have received it by September 16th. That was not true. If I have received it, I wouldn't be making complaint and would be using to reserve with the companion ticket certifcate.

I WOULD LIKE MY TWO YEAR FEE OF $270 REFUNDED AND THEY DON'T HAVE TO SEND THE FREE CERTIFICATE NEXT 6-8 WEEKS.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

Was It Worth It?

a/e is one of the biggest ripoffs in the world. You paid the $270 to get a "free" companion certificate plus the 3 to 5 percent they made off you on any purchases you made plus the merchant's fees. Have posted about this before. Years ago had a gold card. Was paying $75 per year. After spending $12,000 in one years and a/e making close to $600 plus, deceided it wasn't worth it. Called 'em up and told them to not renew the card. They send me a check for $55. If I deposit the check, it renews my card. Shred the check. They then send me a check for $75. Same deal. if I deposit the check, it renew the card. Shredded that check. Why in the world should I pay them to have their card? Couple of years ago they raise my discount rate from 3 to 5 percent at my store in Sept. Then in Oct. they announce UP TO 5 percent back on your purchases. Take a wild stab at how many people got 5 percent and how much they had to spend to get it.

After Dec. I called a/e back to cancel their card at my shop and they lowered my discount back to 3 percent. a/e bites. Last year I get a statement from a/e showing a credit of 44 cents. That's my share of the class action lawsuit. When I called them up, they asked me if I wanted to apply it to future purchaces or get a check. I told them to mail me the check. Never cashed it. It's right up there with the $145,000 check from that scam company that I posted about before.
