Complaint Review: American Express Travel Insurance

This insurance company is a fraud. My family and I booked a trip and we used our American Express Card. They solicited us for the insurance. We have used reputable companies in the past for travel insurance, so we opted to use it. My spouse got food poisoning the weekend we were scheduled to leave for vacation. When we called to file the claim and rebook, we were told it would be covered and the process would be quick and easy. We followed their instructions. Several weeks later our claim was denied. We spoke with a representative at length at which time we were asked for additional paperwork. We followed their instructions and again, several weeks later DENIED. We inquired about an appeal and were denied. I am not surprised they are still in business selling insurance, most non-reputable companies never pay claims; but they continue to get away with it. I have been an AMEX customer for years and I am shocked they would allow their customers to be taken advantage of like this. Hopefully the CFPB shuts them down. Owning my own business, I meet thousands of people a year. I will make sure they not only avoid AMEX Assurance; but AMEX all together.
