I joined American Family Fitness a little over a year ago thinking I was joining a great family place to exercise and be healthy. It turned out I needed to move due to my job so in February of this year I moved and was too far away from the gym to continue membership.

I called and asked exactly what I needed to cancel my memebership and I followed their instructions to a T. I copied and faxed my drivers license and paid the $100 cancellation fee. I even called 30 minutes after I sent the fax and spoke with the same woman I had been dealing with to make sure everything went through. She CONFIRMED with me that all was settled.

Four months later I receive a very unexpected letter from National Fitness saying I owe $73.50 for late membership dues. Of course I'm thinking this is a total mistake so I call them and tell a woman called Leena what had happened. She said they had tried to contact me many times and I informed her that the last I had heard from them was four months prior and her response "well now you're hearing from us". So I immediately ask to speak to her supervisor which then I am told I will have to wait until Monday to hear from them. Understandable since it was a Saturday. So Monday comes and I speak with the supervisor. She informs me that they can't read my driver's license so my memebership was never cancelled. I informed her that the woman told me the day she recieved the fax that everything was fine and I hadn't heard anything since so why wasn't I contacted? All she said was to resend the license which I immediately did.

Wednesday afternoon I received a phone call that I still owed the $73.50 plus the $100 cancellation fee. I responded that I had already sent the $100 cancellation fee four months ago and was told that the money had gone to pay for the monthly memebership fees since. So I of course asked for ANOTHER appointment to speak with a supervisor but was told that I would receive the same information.

This sounds like a way to extract more money from the consumer and I am irate! I will take this matter as high as I possibly can. If anyone has an suggestions please feel free to let me know. Thank you.
