American Family Insurance accusing 80 yr, old handicapped safe driver of stealing her own truck Madison, Wisconsin
My elderly, handicapped friend who has an excellent driving record seems to be being accused by AMERICAN FAMILY INSURANCE of stealing her own 1998 truck, into which she had recently put 1000's of dollars of repairs and upgrades. The car was locked when stolen in early December 2011. When found it was stripped of all things inside, the new canopy was gone and the transmission ruined.
AMERICAN FAMILY INSURANCE ok'd the canopy replacement and transmission repair but then claimed they didn't, despite witnesses and paper work. They are deposing her a second time next week (end of Febrary 2012) and she has been forced to retain a lawyer, She has had to borrow a car for the past 3 months and no longer has the flagging materials necessary to augment her meager Social Security income and items needed for her volunteer work.
This is ridiculous and I want everyone to know that AMERICAN FAMILY INSURANCE treats its clients like dirt.

I tell everyone I meet NOT to use American Family EXACTLY for reasons like this! The Menomonee Falls, WI branch did something similar to us and dropped my car insurance for no reason. So my parents got really fed up with them and pulled ALL of our insurance from their company - House, other vehicles we owned, etc. They refused to work with us and were not civil at all when it came to hearing our case. I wouldn't give ONE CENT to that company!
