I contacted our agent (Mr. Beckman) to inquire about the $200 premium increase for the renewal of our homeowner's insurance policy.

The agent stated "Gee I don't know the reason for the increase. It could be anything; credit, claims and so forth."

I insisted that since he has been our agent for the past 7 years, knows that we've never filed a claim and have our premium automatically debited in full every September, that he contact American Family to obtain an explanation that would justify such large annual premium increases.

However, our agent insisted that American Family would not reveal the reasons for the increase to him, but might reveal the reasons to me.

Dissatisfied with the arbitrary premium increases and the agent's lack of interest in providing us any assistance, we began obtaining quotes from other companies.

We eventually learned that American Family Insurance had listed our account as having filed a claim in 2006 for "Freezing," but note that no payouts were made.

We've never filed an insurance claim for anything and have been informed by other agencies that this entry has affected our insurance score.

We're leaving American Family and attempting to get the erroneous information removed, however we've been advised that even this process causes "them" to open another claim file!

If they fail to immediately fix this problem, my next stops will be the State Insurance Commission and District Court.
