Our Homeowners Policy No. 12PC-3726-01-66-PHGS-IL. Ms. Danine Bloch is the adjuster for the American Family Insurance.I reported loss by lightning strike (Aug.25,2003)on our house on August 26, 2003. After many problems they allowed me to replace the electronic equipment like TV, Computer,VCR,DVD etc.

After one week we found a small leak in the ceiling of our basement which was caused by the referigerator above in the kitchen located 5 feet away from the damaged TV. I reported the same and she came to check it after twenty days and declared it as not a damage from lightning. After lot of arguments they paid for the damaged sofa but got the ceiling repaired (not needed) by their own contractor for $1,416.00.This could be repaired within $200.00.

On November 3, 2003 we found holes in the house roof. The bedrooms under the roof had wet ceilings. Gary Friebus their agent in Naperville (630)(717-0300) suggested that I called Meade Construction in Naperville (630)983-3039. He came, plugged the holes and charged me $75.00 for ten minutes work. The company reimbursed the damage expense as the damage from lightning strike as written by their recommeded contractor.Immediately they sent me a prtial check for the bedroom ceiling painting.

I requested Ms. Bloch to inspect the roof before I got the painting done and she said she would do it soon. On January 16, 2004 she wrote to me that she wouldcome to check as soon as the weather would get better. She came six months after on May 27, 2004 to inspect the roof and declared it wear and tear due to bad construction.

I received a June 14, 2004 letter from this company stating that as they survey the insured houses off and on for better insurance, they found our roof in state to be replaced before 09/14/2004, 12:01 a.m.. Otherwise the insurance will be in jeopardy. They also increased my yearly premium by $400.00 at the time of renewal this month. How can they judge this loss after nine months, make it a survey and declare it a wear and tear due to bad construction?

I have all the documents of correspondence with American Family Insurance Company and can produce anytime or as needed.

how old is the roof?

i am a former adjuter. how old is the roof? it should be easy to determine wether the roof is damaged from ligthning or worn out. the refrig leak is more than likely in no way related to the lightning strike, why you mentioned that the tv is five feet away i don't know. where was the refrig leaking from?

what was wrong with the refrig? i would have considered that a new loss with a new deductible. they have probably raised your rates because of the repeated claim filings. if it would have only cost 200 to repair the damage from the refrig why bother filing a claim. if the lightning put "holes" in your roof, why did it not leak until november? just some thoughts.
