I recieved a call from a woman with a distinct Indian accent. She told me that I had recieved a grant for $5000. She had my address as well information about my checking account. She explained the grant and how lucky I was to be selected. She asked me for a check number. This made me suspicious, I told her I would not give her a check number. She proceeded with processing my information. She finally mentioned that on a day of my choosing, $249 wold be drawn from my account. I flipped and she put me on the line with her supervisor.

when the supervisor came on the line, he also has a thick accent, he began by congradulating me. I asked how I had been selected for this grant. He told me I had been selected because in the past year I had done everything in my power to pay my bills. He also told me that every year the government has a lottery to give out grants to the people, for contributing to the economy.

By this point, red flags were waving all around me. I asked him for a web site, he said it was under construction. I asked him for a telephone number, he said I could get it after I cot my confirmation number. He told me that he was going to record my responses to a few questions. My name, my adress, when it got to my checking account number I lost it "What!" the tape machine switched off and he came back on the line. "Please, your account number," he said to me. I told him I thought he was being awfully pushy for someone who wants to give me money.

While I had him on the phone, he told me that his opperation was located in Atlanta, Georgia. I had logged on to the internet and googled American Grant Information. When I came across Rip off report I exclaimed, "OH, here you are, I found you on the internet" and prceeded to read him the rip-off report. He became indignant, "I never expected this, not from you," he told me. I told him he should be ashamed of himself an that I hoped he was recording that. Then I hung up on him.
