I was called this evening by a man who claimed his name was Jamie Lawson. He had a very thick accent that made it hard to understand him. He claimed that the United States government had 5,000 for me because I paid my taxes on time.

He then began "verifying my information". He already had my name, address, cell number (which was what he was calling me on) my bank, and routing number. They asked me to verify my account number so they knew they were talking to me.

After that they told me they would be charging me a one time fee of $249. After that I started feeling very unconfortable and asked them their company name. (Up till now I was under the impression I was speaking to a US representative) That when they told me they were with American Grants Information Guide.

I told them I wasn't confortable with them having my information and that I didn't want to be charged any money. They quickly changed me to another representative with the same thick accent. They kept assuring me it wasn't a scam and that I could cancel at anytime. Eventually I was pressured into giving them my ok.

I then had to repeat all my info on a recording.(I just wanted off the phone at this point. So I cooperated figuring I could call right back and cancel) After I got off I tried to call back and immediately cancel but all I got was a recording that sounded like a home answering machine. I immediatly contacted my bank and canceled my account.
