On October 8th, 2008 I was contacted by a salesperson from the American Health Advantage-True Care Dental plan. They offered an individual plan of 60% coverage on ALL dental care starting at 13.95 a month with a 25.00 processing fee. They also gave me a list of the closest providers that would accept their policy.

On October 9th, I called them back at 1-800-747-6190 and talked to a man named Stephen ext. 1929. Where he went back over telling me that they would pay 60% of whatever services I needed and I was responsible for the other 40%. They emailed me my temporary card and told me I would receive my actual card in 5-7 business days.

On October 13th, I drove 60 miles to the nearest dentist that their policy would cover. During my visit there, the receptionist could not find the plan in their system. While I was getting X-Rays done, the receptionist tried contacting the number on the back of the card and could not get a hold of anyone. So I had to pay EVERYTHING out of my own pocket because my "discount card" did not apply there.

The next day, October 14th, I called the company to cancel my membership and get back my money because they do have a 30 day guarantee policy. The gentlemen who I talked to asked me why I was canceling so soon and I explained that the dentist office their company told me to go to did not except their coverage. I ending up paying 188.00 out of my own pocket. His response: "Oh." After giving me my confirmation number I had to ask him about my refund. He said that the company would reinstate me the 13.95, but I could not get back the 25.00 processing fee. When I told him I didn't think that was right, he was silent. So then I asked to speak to a supervisor.

After spilling the story to her, she informed me that they DID NOT offer 60% coverage, that they only offered 15-60% coverage depending. When I told her that is not what I was told, she apologized but said that the salesperson had to have told me that. She wouldn't even give me an explanation of why the dentist THEY sent me didn't except their coverage plan. I told her I wanted a full refund considering the fact that I was told a completely different story. She told me it was not possible, and that all telephone conversations are recorded. And that I would have to call back in 2 business days for the tech support to listen in, and then MAYBE we could go from there. I informed her that I would be calling back and I would also be contacting the Better Business Bureau.

I do not appreciate being lied to and plus the embarrassment of being at a dentist office with an discount plan that no one had every heard of. If the salesperson would have told me from the beginning that it was only 15-60% coverage, I would have NOT applied at all! Even after they refund me the 13.95, I'm still out 25.00, plus the 30.00 I spent on gas just to get to the dentist that was supposedly "on their plan". To me this company is nothing but a bunch of scam artists. I would NOT recommend this company to anyone!
