American Home Shield AHS ripoff - denied claim, refused to talk with me Carroll Iowa
My realtor bought me an American Home Shield Warranty for the house I purchased this year. In fact, this only covers problems that develop AFTER the fact, and only normal wear and tear - not much of a warranty.
But my complaint is that the stove has been broken now for six weeks, and I have only a promise it will be fixed in another two weeks (all previous promises have been broken).
The stove is 25 years old, and worth about $50. I was told that once an estimate was avaiable, I would get a choice of repair or money toward purchasing a new one. In fact, I was never given this choice; AHS told me the repairs would be $566, and when I suggested replacement, they said that was too late, but they would have offered only $20!
Finally, I asked to speak to "Customer Relations", and was told I would be transferred. I asked for the direct number, in case I got cut off, and was told Customer Relations has no direct number.
I was on hold for 47 minutes, listening to their inane media hype about the company, when I heard someone pick up the line and hang up on me. I called back and was told that "Customer Relations" didn't want to talk to me - my request was denied. Period!
I wish my realtor had just given me the cost of the poicy; I could have bought a whole new stove for that plus the agony of dealing with these jerks.
Do yourself a favor and avoid them from the get-go. The repair people are working for AHS, and not me - the whole lot of them could care less about me. This is the fatal flaw in such a warranty.
