We've been dealing with Texas Home Warranty aka American Home Shield for about 6 months. They denied a claim on our roof flashing around the pipes. Our toilet began leaking and as a result ruined the carpet and invited an entire colony of carpenter ants under it. The first plumber said it was a leak and should be covered. Of course they "reserve the right for a second oppinion" and their plumber decided it was "improper installation," which is not covered.

One would assume that any problem could be somehow considered improper installation. I just found your site and it sounds as though this is a common problem among their customers. I get the impression that many of you have tried to fight them and ended up with little or no result. I agree, this company is simply a ripoff. It sounds like we will have to sue to get anything done. Good luck to all of you and save your money next time! We will.

AHS Second Opinion

#3Consumer Suggestion

Tue, September 07, 2004

Regarding the advise to hire your own professional to make a decision on the needed repairs and causes: AHS will not allow you to submit any report from a repair tech that is not on "their" list. As I was quoted by AHS, "You might be paying the repair tech to give false information". Absurd but true. The only choice is to get a second opinion from another repair tech that AHS uses and hope that the decision is more favorable.

Of Course- Its a WARRENTY

Okay people. You have a WARRENTY. It will NOT cover for improper installations. Just like every other warrenty. If you disagree with the second technicians diagnosis - request a second - second opinion. Then if the claim comes back denied- ask to be put into RESEARCH. Get your own tech out. Get their diagnosis. Give it to the customer relations rep. - This is just a suggestion. Don't knock AHS b/c of what some tech told them. They aren't there and can't see the problem. (What was the co's name?) Just be smart and use all of your options. Don't just sit back and let the time go by.
