American Home Shield was my home warranty company. I paid extra to warranty my pool equipment. When the heater and pool sweep motor failed, I contacted AHS, which requires a $50 copay to send someone out to the house. Blue Horizons Pool was contracted by AHS to service my equipment.

The representative told me that he couldn't look at any of my equipment until I replaced a gas hose that was below current building codes. $200 later I had this completed and called them back out. The sub-contractor was poorly responsive and after repeated phone calls, they told me that the faulty equipment all suffers from "pre-existing" problems and so none of the repairs would be covered.

I had paid over $300 for the add-on coverage, which appears to be worthless. I then contacted American Home Shield and requested a refund for that portion of my policy that was basicaly worthless. I was told to submit my claim in writing and I would be refunded the money.

However, I recieved a letter from AHS saying there is no provision for cancellation in the options coverage of my contract and they wouldn't be giving any of my money back! So in addition to the hundreds of dollars paid for the policy, code upgrades, and service fees, I still don't have any working equipment!

Worst of all, my privately hired pool guy says he quit working for the warranty companies because he found them disreputable. I would gladly sign onto a class action lawsuit if there is interest in this.
