American Home Shield refused to cover our air conditioner condenser stating that the requested repair was not normal wear and tear. My policy covered rust and corrosion and by living near the ocean we are subjected to elements that cause rust and corrosion. the coil was ruptured from the inside and the bottom of the unit was completely gutted with the compressor sitting on the ground.

Normal wear and tear in the area that I live in is rust and corrosion. It is a fact of life for us. American home shield covers what it wants when it wants. They said that sprinkler water did the damage but the outside of the cabinet was not rusted; only the bottom of the cabinet was rusted and the coil fins were corroded into powder. All this due to the environment. How else could rust and corrosion occur?

They completely refused the claim on this basis and said also that the coil was punctured and the rust and corrosion were not normal wear and tear. I paid three licensed A/C contractors to evaluate the condenser and all three agreed that the coil was ruptured and the reason was fatigue caused by the corrosion. Their A/C contractor sent an unlicensed service tech out who made the initial call of a puncture but all the licensed contractors said it was a rupture. In Florida a licensed contractor must be on-site to oversee all the activities of an unlicensed service tech.

This is a miserable company to deal with and their policies are not worth the paper they are printed on. Run far and run fast from American Home Shield.
