I was contacted regarding a sweepstakes that I had won which was a $300 gift certificate from American Laser Centers. In order to claim the gift certificate I had to make an appointment. During the "sales pitch", I was enticed and agreed to a contract of $3700 for services. In order to get the "special deal", I of course had to sign that day. I signed the contracts for a payment plan through Care Credit. Upon leaving, I realized that this was something that I really didn't want or could afford. I called the following morning to cancel and was told I could not. She informed me that it was on the contract. The contract is misleading in the wording which states "..I agree to the non-refundable fee for the treatments I WILL receive". To my understanding this meant I would not receive a refund for a treatment that had taken place. In addition, I mailed letters, emails and called. In Michigan, there is a Consumers Protection ACT which states that if you are offered anything, you have a certain number of days to cancel. In addition to that, I did not receive any loan disclosures or copies of papers from Care Credit. I beleive this violates some lending practices, as well as provides for cancellation until those forms are received. I have filed complaints with the Michigan Attorney General, but American Laser Center will not budge. I was told by the Attorney General's office, that I would have to hire an attorney. They also told me that there are a number of other complaints recorded. This company needs to stop taking advantage of women and men. I've never had a company refuse to refund money when nothing has occured. It's unethical based on all the complaints that seen about this company.
