My husband and I are self employed and had purchased a policy from American Medical and Life Insurance Company.  We needed the insurance in case of emergency only, so we set our deductable at $2500, and continued to pay for our own "well care".
I became ill from a food born source and was admitted to the hospital via emergency room visit.  I spent 13 days in the hospital, as the bacteria or viral infection attacked my lower GI tract.  I became very anemic and low in vitals and almost died.  The doctors and hospital saved my life.  I am 45 yrs old, non smoker, and marathon runner.  I have lived a very healthy and honest life.
American Medical and Life Insurance has done everything to not pay any of my bills.  They have told me over and over, that they have not received claims from the hospital or doctors, even though they have all submitted paperwork 4 times.  They have refused claims based on treatment not being medically necessary.  They refused a claim, stating that my expenses were incurred after coverage was terminated, code 27.  When I called to ask why they continue to take the automatic draft from my account, if my coverage was terminated, they said it was a clerical error, but refused to correct the mistake with the 2 doctors that were told I have no insurance.  In my opinion, this is fraud.
I am at a complete loss.  I cannot believe that after paying for insurance for 12 years, that I am being treated this way.  I cannot understand how they get away with treating consumers like this.  I am upset that the people who saved my life are waiting to be paid.  This may ruin me financially.
