Yesterday my mother was called and told she won a brand new merceded and that this company American Money Corp was holding a check for her in the amount of 450,000.00 and will ultimately get 95.5 million dollars. they told her they were in our state RI trying to deliver her prize and at the ups station in Woonsocket RI but needed a "letter of authorization"from our goverment in order to deliver her prize. They sent her out to do a money gram. She did. They said they would see her today with her prize.

Today Mrs Freeman called my mother and told her they needed 300.00 more because our goverment required that much more. My mother said she didnt have it because I handle all her funds. Mrs Freeman put my mother on the phone with Mr. Billie Jean who basically told my mother if she cant send them the 300.00 today she wouldve lost the 200.00 from yesterday. Then he proceeded to tell my mother NOT to tell me about them but to ask me for 300.00 and tell me she needed it for something else. Thats when mymother called me and gave me their address and i would GLADLY drive to them with their 300.00. HA! They dont know RI is so small i can be anywhere in the matter of minutes.  I then was hung up on several times and had to instruct my mother not to answer any more of their calls and not to send anymore money.

SHAME ON THIS COMPANY SCAMMING PEOPLE. ESPECIALLY MONEYGRAM WHO JUST ALLOWS THIS TO CONTINUE. THAT WAS MY MOTHERS GROCERY MONEY FOR THE MONTH. MY MOTHER IS A 100% DISABLED VETERAN WHO FAUGHT FOR THIS COUNTRY. AND SHAME ON OUR GOVERMENT FOR ALLOWING THIS COMPANY TO DO THIS AS I SEE AS FAR BACK AS 2008.

It's not the government's fault

How can you blame the government for this? These types of callers are scammers. They use whatever story they can think of to get people like your mother to send funds. There is a very good chance that these scammers aren't even in this country. All they need is a phone and a computer and they can rip off hundreds and maybe thousands of people. Just read the reports. The scams are the same, only the names and stories are changed.

It is a shame that your mother believed this scammer. It was a good idea for her to turn the call over to you so you could put a stop to future losses of funds through this type of scam. The fact that your Mother fell for this common, long running scam says that you need to limit her access to any funds at all without your specific approval. Even grocery money. It happens with the elderly, they become too trusting in today's world filled with scammers.
