APSA post job openings on sites like careerbuilders.com and hotjobs.com. They identify themselves as "recruiters" that have been hired by a Pharmaceutical companies (the company names are never disclosed -how convenient) in different areas of the U.S. to fill positions. The next step is to have you click on their website. Once in their website they state " We represent, train, certify and place entry-level Pharmaceutical Sales representatives" but they never mention this "job opening" you had first started off reading about in the job search websites. Their goal is to get you to pay for their seminar and in the seminar the trainer states he is not there to hire you for any specific job (um, excuse me, but what about the ad placed on career builder that says :

"We are currently recruiting for ten leading Pharmaceutical companies and eight leading Medical Device manufacturers. APSA Certification is an industry recommended and endorsed "credential" - however is not mandatory to apply to our posted positions. Most positions will be filled by end of November '08. "

All he does in this seminar is talk about what are the tricks in interviewing to get A Pharma Sales job, what to wear, and tries to sell you a resume service, and a book on cd. He even has the odasity to mention that Pharmaceutical companies won't post their job opening on job search website so not to bother looking there not posting your resume there!

Do not be fooled by this Robert "Bobby" guy! He claims to be a trainer when in deed this company is all a one man show; he is the owner. There is no business address for APSA and the business address on record with the state is an apartment that is registered as his home! The business has been opened for about 5 years and in the seminar he makes statements of working for them for 10 ++ years and his website says "The APSA is the industry's longest running and most respected training partner association in North America"

Another statement that cannot be validated is that of them being "accredited" and in the seminar he even goes as far as saying some colleges with give you college credits for taking his seminar-
***This was my first eye opener- What college would give you credits for taking a 3 hours class that only teaches interview tricks to get hired into a Pharma job???? And about the "accreditation"- not a surprise to me to have found out the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Postsecondary Education does not have APSA in their database! (guess what= if you are accredited, you WILL be in their database!)

Bottom Line:
If you are looking for a job, chances are you are out of work and money is tight, or looking for a another job because you need better pay! The LAST thing you need is to waste your money on a scam like this. These SCAMS are unethical!!

There seems to be a lot of bitterness and misunderstanding via this complaint and I will do my best to explain...

I am one of the longest tenured employees here at the APSA. The program that we run is indeed fully accredited...however, it must be done through an accredited college or university (where one signs up through their registar) TO GET CREDIT on your transcripts. This is explained on our webiste. Further, when you do take this through a college, the course hours are from 40-50 hours of study time (depending on the college) not 3 as stated in the complaint.

And to clarify to all job seekers out there:

Generally speaking, you do need a 4-year degree to work in brand Pharm. I can't speak for every company, but that is usually a well endorsed statement. However, we as an Association, cover Medical Device, OTC, Animal Science, Biotech as well...and there are sectors of this industry (where sales cycles are long and selling is at a tangible premium) that will indeed hire you with qualified sales experience in lieu of a specific education.

We have NEVER EVER guaranteed anyone a job. We state our rate of hire, never pass on dues or fees to our members and teach what we know is vital.
