American Public University AMU/APU Financial Aid Refund Scam Internet

Financial aid refunds are given to student-borrowers by the Federal Dept. of Education. These refunds help students to pay for housing, Internet Service providers, books, etc. APUS delays these funds, which have been appropriated by the government, for anywhere from 3-6 weeks. If you are a student that needs these funds to stay afloat while pursuing higher education, I recommend that you do not select this school.

Presntly I should have recieved my funds during the last week in July. Labor Day is 3 days from now and the university continues to hold the funds. This time they they claim that there are kinks in the conversion system from paper checks to debit cards. It has been going on since June. My rent is 5 weeks past due and my landlord is furious with me. I pawned my TV 3 weeks ago to keep my Internet service on so that I can continue classes. I have spoken with and emailed the refund dept. over a dozen time and still I wait. This is not the first time. Two years ago after being a student for a year, I was asked to fax 17 documents including a letter from my 21 y/o son to validate my identity. 1 1/2 months later they said that a new person in the review dept. made a mistake causing a 6 week delay. Another time a representative from their financial aid dept. emailed me.  After 1 month I received a refund for 1/3 my allocated amount. I called him and he told me to send the check back because the entire amount had to be dispersed at one time. I did and 1 week later I received a check for the missing 2/3 but not the initial 1/3. The refund dept. issued a check for the remaining 1/3 1 week later. So much for the entire disbursement amount at one time. I am out of here ASAP. They are deceptive, dishonest, and unprofessional. With all of that said, many of the professors are good, a few are outstanding and some are pitiful because they do not show up in class to offer feedbacck.

Signed,

Suffering financially from government-issued funds that Apus refuses to release.

Ps. They also told me that they reserve the right to disburse refunds for anywhere from 30- 45 days after they receive them which is 1 week after classes have began. Pitiful!

APUS/AMU does reserve the right to disburse your loans 30 – 45 days after they receive them.  Additionally, if you are living student loan to student loan and using this as your sole income, maybe you should step back and revisit your work situation.  There are great government assistance programs available to assist people with housing, food, and even cell phones!

Do not get back at AMU/APUS because you want everyone to bend over backwards for you because of your lack of responsibility.

The school is listed in the recommended colleges list on the FEMA Emergency Management Institute website. I don't think it would be if there were any question on qualitiy or financial scam. I understand that paying for school is hard. It caused great frustration for me also. And on-line schools are always writing intensive. That is the best way for them to verify your work is actually done by you.
