I contacted a moving company, American Van Lines East, out of Tampa Florida for a move I was planning from Dunedin Florida to Leland North Carolina on October 10th. They had me supply a list of items to be moved, and supplied a written estimate of $2,300 for the move.

On the day of the move, the driver determined the cost would be double, and when asked why, he replied "because the quote was wrong, too low". We told him that would not be acceptable, and he said "they would charge us a cancelation fee". I contacted their office and was told this was acceptable practice, and we were obligated by contract. I tried to convince them that we did not agree to an open ended price, that we were willing to have some adjustments made (for example +/- $500), but not double the quoted price. By the end of the day, they charged my credit card $350, in addition to the $200 already supplied them as a down payment.

You really should have an investigations done regarding your credit card "abuse"(?) by legal authorities and/or your credit card company, and press charges depending the outcome.

Report the AVL sub-contracted moving company to the BBB.

You should get your money back.
