Contacted American Van Lines of California in early May, 2011 spoke with a Mr. Goldstein about a move from California to Fort Worth Texas. Discussed approximate weight, and price and we were packing ourselves, I gave an estimated move date of May 24-25, got a written quote of $2,957.88. On May 11, 2011, Mr. Goldstein said in order to reserve these a deposit in the amount of $1,135.68 was needed.  I agreed and paid the deposit.  Days later,  Matthew from Quality Assurance called stating that we have to pay storage fees, our move dates were too early. I told him that there wasn't a problem nor was storage fees mentioned when these dates were booked.  He said we could either pay the storage fees or change the date.  I agreed to change the dates to May 29-31 as the new load dates upon his recommendation. May 31st came, no movers, called the company was told by Mr.Goldstein the truck was full trying to get another driver. Called AMV on June 1, talked with Debbie from Customer Service was told still trying to locate a drive but were were entitled to a refund because they had not showed up on by May 31.  Told her we just need a driver by the end of the day.  Called back few hours later and said I need my money back can't wait any longer.  Placed on hold only to be told because we changed the move dates cannot get a refund.  Didn't have time to haggle, I contacted Penske Rentals and rented a truck and car carrier, left my residence on June 3 at 4:00am. I reported AMV to the Better Business Bureau AMV told them a driver went to my home on May 31, 2011 and we were not there, services were rendered. Since we agreed to change dates, it wasn't within their 5 day window and that's why we are not entitled to our refund. If someone had been sent, why did they call my cfon June 1, twice on June 2nd, June 3 stating they have a driver from Brown Van Lines to pick up our property on June 5th.  I also received calls from a driver from another company by the bane of Nick saying he has a helper and could pick up my property on June 6 at 8:00am.  I have 6 saved voice messages showing they were trying to get a driver after May 31st.  I have my contract from Penske showing when I rented their truck, I missed signing my lease and arrived in Texas June 5th.  This company also is operating out of Fort Lauderdale as these are the numbers that are on my cfon 888-219-7171 June 1st and June 2nd but Leon verbally left the number of 800-338-9361 ext 348 to call.  Debbie from 800-338-9361 ext 347 called June 2, and June 3rd, a Nick from 636-734-4650 called on June 4th and June 5th so he could pick up my property on June 6, 2011.  This company is fradulent, unscrupulos and should be shut down, they are operating under the same MC number and are physically in two or more locations.  I just would love to get my money back and see them shut down.

American Van Lines Assistance

#2REBUTTAL Owner of company

Greetings,

We, at American Van Lines would like to extend our sincere apologies to Mr. Willoughby for any difficulties encountered when moving with us. Our company had all the intentions of servicing his move and work very hard into meeting his deadlines and requested pick-up and delivery dates. We've been in contact with Mr. Willoughby.

When Mr. Willoughby called us to change his moving dates our team provided him with our 5 day Date Change Form due to changing his 4 days prior to the 1st date of his estimated pick-up window. Mr. Willoughby signed and returned the 5 day Date Change Form on 5/26/2011 acknowledging and agreeing to the new dates and the contents of the date change form. Everything was carefully explained and he accepted the terms explained. We regret the outcome of his move as we were looking forward to servicing his relocation.

Sincerely,

-Customer Relationship Manager
