In an attempt to pay off debts, my husband and I refinanced our house through Ameriquest Mortgage. The loan officer, Jodi Van Den Hout, told us that even though there was a prepayment penalty on our mortgage for three years, we could refinance in six months if we went through Ameriquest again to get our 9.9% interest rate into something more realistic and affordable.

I called Ameriquest in six months and Mrs. Van Den Hout was no longer there and they would not consider looking at our loan for two years.

We were completely duped and I would never recommend using Ameriquest Mortgage. I have filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission Consumer Protection Agency and am seriously considering filing a civil suit.

Do not finance with Ameriquiest. They are unethical if not fraudulent - well organized liars in business suits.

Ameriquest Settlement forthcoming

#3Author of original report

Tue, July 03, 2007

Apparently my complaints to Michigan's Attorney General, as well as the complaints of thousands of others across the country, have been heard. Last year, Ameriquest agreed to a class action settlement and restitution.

I received noticed in the mail yesterday, July 2, 2007, that I will receive restitution payment from Ameriquest. I am sure it will be a paltry amount, nothing compared to my $800/month interest payments on a $100k loan; but there is some vindication with Ameriquest forking out money.

If you have questions about the settlement agreement, it is on the web at "ameriquestmultistatesettlement".

Ameriquest / AMC is BAD NEWS.

Additional Information on GR Ripoff prepayment penalty

I am the poster of the original complaint.

The prepayment penalty if we refinanced within three years was 12 months interst - which was almost $10,000.

Additionally, Jodi Van Den Hout announced our quoted interest rate changed at our closing.

They also did not escrow our taxes and insurance or we would not have qualified for the loan, but required us by contract to keep both taxes and insurance current.

Further, there were no witnesses present to the transaction and our documents were all notorized after we had left the building.

Our original documents and those they have on file, I have copies of both, show that the witnesses (notaries) did not sign our documents and were not there.

Please note that Ameriquest Mortgage has changed their name to AMC. I wonder why?
