I requested a copy of my husband's credit report and Ameriquest Mortgage is continuosly running his credit and we have never done business with them nor requested credit from them. I thought it was illegal for them to obtain credit info without his signed permission.

check the type of inquiry. The pulls that hurt you are the "hard" pulls. These are the ones that companies and collection agencies do when you are delinquent

This is all true, but there are diffirent tyoes of credit pulls that companies can do and ones that are called "soft" inquiries dont hurt your credit score. There are soft ones for prequalifications and ones that companies that you have accounts with do just to see if anything has changed in your credit situation that they arent aware of. Insurance companies use this type alot to determine your rates. The pulls that hurt you are the "hard" pulls. These are the ones that companies and collection agencies do when you are delinquent on your payments and such. I know the inquiries are labeled on the credit report as to what kind they are but I cant remember what the different labels are. I'm sure this information is on a web site somewhere. Maybe try doing a google search on reading your credit report or identifying types of creit report inquiries.

Hope this helps alittle!

Accessing your Credit Report

#5Consumer Suggestion

Sun, March 13, 2005

Actually, any company who has a contract with the credit reporting agencies (experian, trans union, etc) can pull credit reports to "pre qualify" you for credit. This is why people get credit card offers, offers for loans, etc, as junk mail. Exerians FAQ state:

"Inquiries: Review all the inquiries on your credit report in the section titled: "Requests viewed by others." This section contains inquiries from creditors that have accessed your credit report to process an application. If you do not recognize the credit grantor accessing your report, that may be an indication of fraudulent activity."

You probably cannot stop this from happening. These Inquiries do not affect your credit (only the ones you request because you applied for credit will affect your credit). If you feel you are a victim of idenity thieft (I was!) or someone is using your credit, make sure you put a security alert on your credit report.

From what Im reading, Ameriquest is a company that should be closed down. The government is not going to do this. Our congress has already proven that they care more about the banks (and the "donations" they get from them) more than they care about the American people.
