Amerisave rep. told us that we needed to put down $500 to "secure" our interest rate. I used my credt card for this and specifically requested to be reimbursed for this. I was told that I would be but never received the promised check. They instead put the money towards closing costs which I didn't want.

At closing, the notary asked me (in front of my wife) how I wanted the $500 reimbursed. I said, "by check", to which he provided a document that he had me sign stating that I'd receive it by check. Unfortunately, I didn't get a copy of that paper, nor do I remember the notary's name.

I filed a complaint with the banking industry and Amerisave's response was that It was all a "misunderstanding", as if I'm totally incompetent. They've yet to send me a check.

Here's a tip. If a financial institute expects you to give them money in order to borrow money, run!
