I received a call froma representative from Ameritrust Financial saying I had been pre-approved for a credit card with an 8.9% APR and a beginning credit line of $2000.00.

They said all they needed was a $200.00 deposit from me and then they would mail me a form to sign and fax back to them and I'd receive my credit card in 5-7 business days. They wanted my banking account information over the phone.

I am incredibly stupid and they caught me on a date at the office when I was too busy to think clearly. I gave them my account number! The $200.00 was withdrawn from my checking account on June 1, 2007. I received the "Acceptance Letter" from them in the mail today, June 2, 2007. The envelope was hand written with no return address. The letter was mailed from Tampa, Florida.

I googled this because I started to think that maybe this was a scam after the fact and I came across this site. The acceptance letter asks for my phone number, sale date, verification number, DOB, and SSN. They want this form faxed back to their office and then they will mail me my card.

Is this legitimitely a scam? Should I hold this letter and not mail it back to them? I've already had the $200.00 debited from my checking account.
