DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT WITH AMP TALENT GROUP.

Anne Marie Perrault, the owner of the agency, is extremely manipulative and condescending, and will take advantage of your money.  During my audition with her, she told me how I had such a great look and how I should be on tv- which she says to everyone.  Before my audition with her, I had made sure to research about scams to notice any warning signs.

These are the warning signs I noticed:

-She recommended a VERY expensive photographer for my portfolio (David Chang, davidchang.ca).

-She promised me work, saying that she already had castings for me, before I even joined.

-She listed a bunch of names of successful people in the industry that she has worked with (for example, Melinda Shankar of Degrassi)

These are BIG NONO'S in this industry!

Being naive, and after discussing it with my parents, we decided to join with her.  HOWEVER, this was after she called my house asking for me to join the agency (after the audition, as she had "upcoming auditions" for me, and didn't want me to miss out).  I never received a casting until MONTHS LATER.

When I went to take my pictures for my portfolio (the location was downtown Toronto in a sketchy neighbourhood, and occurred at night), my mother and I were stuck outside in the freezing cold (it was winter), as Anne Marie told us to call her cell phone when we had arrived.  After waiting outside for half an hour, as she never did answer her phone (she claims it didn't ring- we called MULTIPLE times), a man exiting the building finally let us in.

At the portfolio meeting, Anne Marie got us to sign the 2-year contract (which she FAILED to mention at the audition).  At the end of taking my pictures, and after signing the contract, Anne Marie tried to force me into taking a comedy acting class.  Due to financial reasons, we said no.  This did not sit well with her at all.  We also paid Anne Marie a very fat cheque for over a thousand dollars [which included the $800 portfolio (bad pictures, with horrible hair and makeup, which was an additional $50- I turned out orange), and some other fees which included $15/month for appearing on her website (which I've yet to appear on), and another amount for appearing on a casting website (which according to her, she MUST use)].  My mother let her know that she may not receive the money right away, and possibly a week later, to which Anne Marie agreed.  The next day, she called my mother FLIPPING OUT on her, demanding she receive the money right away.

When my portfolio was available for pick up at the office, we had let her know that we would not be able to pick them up, and asked her if they could be mailed to us, to which she refused.  Eventually, she ended up mailing it, however it did not include any copies of my acting resumes (which I continue to print-out using my own paper and ink).

While on lunch one day at school, a few weeks after the portfolio shoot, Anne Marie called me to see if I would like to take some other acting class.  We told her we could not afford it, so she offered it for half of the price ($800 originally, $400 half-price).  We still said no.

Communication with Anne Marie is non-existant.  She DOES NOT care about getting you work, she only cares about getting your money.

Please do not be ignorant if you are reading this, and choose to ignore my experiences with this agency- I am only trying to save you time and money.  AMP Talent Group does not appear on Actra's No Cheque List (which includes scam agencies), however it very well should!

DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT WITH AMP TALENT GROUP- GO ELSEWHERE! (See the ACTRA website)!

Lessons in Professionalism for AMP

#4General Comment

If Miss. Perrault is so concerned about her professional reputation and integrity, I might suggest that she:

  1. Stop picking on teenage girls (i.e. Adrienne Collins).  They're calling a spade a spade.  Furthermore, their reports are intelligently worded, with correct punctuation, spelling, and grammar.  The latter of which Miss. Perrault's rebuttals lack.

  2. Spell-check, learn to apply correct punctuation, and don't use words out of context.  Such looks sloppy, careless, and unprofessional.

  3. Become accountable for her personal conduct, and treatment of people--past and present.  Miss. Perrault is neither the epitome of honesty, integrity, or otherwise.  She knows so, and when people call her out on her conduct, she ALWAYS goes on the defense, lies, embellishes, or makes excuses.  At least she's consistent in that area.

Without PREJUDICE,

I would like to address the accusations being made against myself and the agency. As of June 2010, I let a talent go from representation from the agency, due to her inappropriate behaviour and lack of communication with not only our agency but our cliental as well. On numerous occasions emails, phone calls and texts were made to the said talent, with no response. As a commitment to our agency talent are asked too keep us updated of their availability or unavailability so that we can efficiently provide them with representation and opportunities. When a talent comes to our agency seeking representation they are all treated the same, fairly, and are required to do a screen test audition, of which results in an assessment on their skill level and marketability. If they are raw talent with no professional or LEGIT training and or experience then they are given feedback and recommendations on what they can do on accomplishing their goal to sign with an agent and book work. There is a difference between being an unsigned talent and being a signed talent. The difference is simple, a signed talent means we see potential in you and are willing to dedicate a period of time to help you grow and develop. During this time talent are encouraged to develop their resume through independent projects and unpaid work.

We will market you and get you out to as many auditions that fit your skills and experience, we do both, whether there is a commission or not. The priority is to get YOU work. However, having said that, we have just gone through the largest recession in more than twenty years (as is the rest of the world) and productions have left Canada and the US. Only now are they slowly beginning to return. For those of you who know the industry, then you are well aware that the Film and television industry was hit hard.  During the slow time, we as an agency offered our talent a chance to meet and study under master acting coaches, casting directors and renowned theatrical and film directors. The camp was put on for the soul benefit of the talent and there was no profit made, by the agency, from it. We do however, have to pay all ten teachers, filming, editing and for the space at the S.C. in Toronto. It was a huge expense but worth it, because it gave the talent an opportunity to meet with and train under important members of our industry.

Whether you are represented, or an unrepresented talent you need certain tools in this industry. These tools include resumes, a head shot, and if you are modelling as well as acting a portfolio of a dynamic amount of photographs from the various work that you have done. As well as pictures in different lighting, settings and outfits. All models and actors are responsible to keeping their own resumes up to date and printed. Talent are required to bring their portfolio and their resumes to castings so that if the producer, director, casting director, ad agency, client etc. request a copy. You should have extra copies as well as this is your business card. The agency is not responsible for the printing of your resume. As resumes need to be constantly updated it is highly recommended that you print out a small amount when needed.

The agency is not responsible for photography prices. We do suggest certain photographers that we have worked with in the past and do quality industry work. However, it is not mandatory for you to use this photographer. It is the talents final decision. We give different recommendations for photographers based on talents age and market. Each agency in the city has a number of preferred photographers. When working with an agency it is logical to ask for their recommendations. We are looking for bright, clean cut and energetic photographs that show off YOU in YOUR best light.

During this talent's time with the agency, said talent was requested several times to come in to the agency for a meeting to discuss the next steps for them and these requests were ignored. All calls made to the agency by talent are returned or picked up by myself or one of the other ladies in the office.

There are two legit systems in this industry that agencies use to submit auditions for their talent. The Talent are required to purchase the membership and they are allowed to access their profile at any time.

AMP Talent books models and talent daily. We are constantly sending out our talent to a large amount of casting calls and auditions for a variety of well respected and well known companies, some that we have established an exclusive relationship with. We also work with studios, independent production companies, directors and advertising agencies, universities and colleges throughout Canada and the US. We are well known and respected for our calibre of talent and are proud to have built and established long term relationships with all.

As a person you have a resume thats states where you have worked before, who you have worked with, the capacity that you worked and for how long. Agencies and other companies for that matter have the same process. We can legally state who we have worked with, when we worked with them, what we did and for how long. This is so you as talent can see our potential as your agent. We do not guarantee that you will be working for these people but we will try to get you those roles.

AMP Talent represents union talent and receives checks for talent and have a clean record of paying on talent and that is why we are NOT on the no check list. If we did not have a clean record, we would be on the check list.

To re-iterate the purpose of signing a contract with an agency I would like to use an analogy. When one is looking to buy or sell a house they call upon real estate agent or company to show them listings that they are interested in or to help prepare them to sell their house. During this process the real estate agent will have the client sign an exclusivity agreement that they are acting as their sole agent to help them secure the desired property. This agreement is formal and by signing both parties show their loyalty and trust to each other.

Although we do not expect a young teenager to fully comprehend the practices and logistics of the business, we do try to explain and breakdown the process for our new talent so that they have clearer understanding of the process.  We have an open door policy that encourages our talent to come in our call at anytime to ask questions or voice concerns and otherwise to converse about their events of the month. We fully encourage constant communication as this allows to personally get to know that talent and family.

Best regards and good luck to all the talent out there!
