Complaint Review: AMR Appliances

The company consists of one employee who is fraudulent and not actually licensed or regulated by any governing body.  He decides how much to charge after he has done the repair and will not provide itemized cost for parts or labor.  Refused to show me receipt for the water pump he purchased to repair my refrigerator.

Upon completion, I noticed scratches on the digital display on the front of my fridge.  He had tried to pry the front off with a screwdriver to reset the error codes.  (I ended up repairing them by holding the power button down for ten seconds as the manual indicated.)  He told me that he could not download a manual to repair the fridge and he didn't know how to fix it.

After completing the repair (which has actually worked), he wanted me to write a check to him personally and not to the company.  I told him that I would write a check to the company whose name was on the receipt.  He got very angry and told me that if I didn't give him a personal check, he was going to call the police.  I agreed that it would be a good idea for them to be there as he was parked in front of my house and I felt threatened by his presence.  The police came and told him that he could take the check made out to the company or he could leave with no payment.  They also told him not to return to my property.  The police recommended that I contact the attorney general for consumers which I did.  They have made a full write up of the experience.

I chose not to try to have any money reimbursed for the scratches he made on the front of the refrigerator based on the attorney general's recommendation that I should probably not provoke him further for my own safety.

This is not a real company.  This is one man who uses several different company names and all phone numbers go directly to his cell phone.  I strongly recommmend against him and hope that others heed the many warnings on the internet better than I did.
