This company sent me a "free" calling card with limited minutes, which, according to their information enclosure, I could use until the 29th of that month. On the 29th, if I did not wish to keep the card, my bank account would be billed $39.99 + $3.95 tax. On the 28th, I called and cancelled the card. However, when I received my bank statement, I had been charged $48.79 (not even the $43.94 that stated in the enclosed brochure) on the "20th" of that same month.

I called, and they say they will refund my account. When I pointed out that I had been charged on the 20th, not the 29th, the customer service representative said that my "free" limited use of the card expired on the 29th of the month before. Interestingly, I did not even recieve the card and brochure until May 5th in an envelope postmarked April 29th.

US Phone claims this is a "convenient" service because "there are NEVER any extra bills showing up in your mailbox unexpectedly! (US Phone's emphasis)." What they don't state is that you MAY have extra charges showing up on your bank statement unexpectedly! (my emphasis).

This company is obviously, "the all new long-didstance savings company designed with YOU, [the next conveniently ripped off] consumer, in mind." What a scam!
