I signed up for a 2 week trial. A week later, I used it one time to see if they had improved any, since I was an OLD SUBSCRIBER in the past. I had a 1 year subscription, which it didn't help me one IODA.

I sent them email that day telling them to cancel me, Its not what I was looking for. I also explained how I couldn't get past this new United Kingdom promotion they were pushing, which I have no use of, since Im not British or Irish.

Well, I go to pay my phone bill, (mind you, Im temporarily on a fixed income), and all my money is gone. My whole friggin Check. I have an 8 year old child. I have no bill money, no grocery money. I was in an accident, so now I can't even get out of the house.
Well, I traced it all back through the help of my bank to Ancestry.com. They hit me 3 times, in a 2 week period. The total came to almost $400 dollars, plus I got hit with a $90 overcharge, cause the money wasn't there to begin with.

Now, I have no phone service, and have to come up with a deposit to turn in back on.

I have called the Bank, and they are willing to work with me. I am going to sign the forms I need to sign.
I am calling the Attorney General of my State as well as Utah.

They told me on the phone that you can not cancel by email. I never seen that in the policy, but it doesn't really matter. A cancelation, is a cancelation, makes no difference how it is done.

I read 26 complaints on Ripoff about this between 3/12/2001-6/28/2004, I just wish I had seen it sooner.

Come'on, they can't ALL be nuts.

How many victims don't even know about ripoffreport.

I say we all file a classaction consumer suit.
Oh yeah, I can't forget to point out, The lady at ancestry.com also told me about how somebody needs to submit a family tree, I am sorry, I had to laugh, because I thought that's what they are getting paid to do? That's what my $400 dollars is paying for!

BADDDDDDDDDD BUUUUUSSSSNESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS in Utah ONCE AGAIN!

When you gave your credit card or debit card number during signup for the "free trial" there was also a checkoff that says you agreed to their terms and conditions. Unfortunately part of that agreement in the terms and conditions is auto renew and that you must call that 800 number to cancel. Waiting on hold at that number for long periods of time has been a fairly common thing in the past.
I am wondering about the three separate charges for almost $400. Did you maybe sign up 3 times because you weren't getting access or was some of that because of bouncing charges?

For places to complain go to the URL below, also click on the 26 ripoff report posts you mentioned. There is additional good advice there.
