Complaint Review: Anchor Marine Repair

I brought my 23ft Trophy to this facility because the motor knocked and backfired. They did a leak down test and informed me it had a bad valve. They initially indicated it would take three weeks to perform this assessment and to their credit they did that in a week. I authorized them to replace the head or repair it. The motor has 110 hours on it. At that point i was tempted to do it myself but my schedule was too busy so I gave them the go ahead. They pulled the head and sent it to a local machine shop. BTW a new head can be delivered overnight by Amazon for $400. That said I called back in two weeks and they indicated the head was back in the shop. I expected the boat to be done shortly but they then said they needed to order a head gasket set. Like why didn't you do that when you pulled the head? Ok well again that could be obtained at any local auto parts store or Amazon overnight but it took them a week.

I called back in a week to see how things were going and they said they got the head gasket set but that they now needed to order some head bolts. Like we didn't know that when we pulled the head!!! So they ordered them from Mercruiser and that took another week. Fully 8 weeks later they get the head back on and called me to tell me we have a problem. The motor runs worse then when you brought it in and they decided that a piston rod was malfunctioning and that they would need to replace the engine. So the repair for the head was $2153.54. They then gave an estimate to replace the entire engine for ~$13000.00. A complete new long block delivered costs less then $2600. I paid them their $2153.54 and because of their incompetence would never go there again. They are either incompetent or they bait and switch to get a bigger job. This was the worst consumer experience of my lifetime. I strongly encourage anyone entertaining the use of their disservice to be wary. If I could give them less then one star I would. BE ADVISED!
